It made the letter I change the sound it makes.” (I wave the wand in the air.) Instead of the word saying “kit”, that middle vowel now says it’s name I. (k-i-t.) Watch what happens when I take out this super fancy Magic E wand and add the E to the end of the word. ![]() I’ll write down the word “kit.” Let’s sound it out together. “Let’s see what happens when the magic E is added to the end of a word. Hmmm… What do you think the letter U says? (Answer: U.) Instead of making their regular old sound like “A is for apple” and “O is for octopus,” the magic E makes the vowels say their name. It is SO strong and SO powerful that it changes the sound other vowels make. “There is a magical letter in our alphabet. So each time that I introduce the powerful letter E, I share the same explanation. Let’s face it – it’s kind of a strange phenomenon.īut, time and again, I’ve been amazed by how much easier this lesson is learned when it’s connected to a visual.
